Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction comes as a boon for patients who have undergone partial or full mastectomy. Women with congenital absence of breast or abnormalities in their breast’s development can benefit from breast reconstruction surgery. At Houston Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery Center, Dr Sean Boutros and Dr Jason Hall combine their artistic vision with true expertise and skill in the field of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to recreate the female breasts.

Breast Reconstruction Surgery

to Recreate the Natural Breast Contour

Our AAAASF accredited surgical center is equipped with the most advanced technology for delivering safe and effective results for breast reconstruction surgery.

Our surgeons provide the following options for reconstructive breast surgery

  • Reconstruction with autologous tissue (DIEP flap procedure)
  • Reconstruction with implants

Safe and Proven Techniques

DIEP flap breast reconstruction:- Autologous tissue reconstruction with DIEP flap technique is far safer with minimal pain; any risk arising from the surgical procedure is also minimal. The patient’s own tissue and skin is used to reconstruct the breasts. Tissue that is normally discarded with a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty operation is called DIEP flap. The tissue is completely removed from the body along with the inferior epigastric blood vessel, and is introduced to the chest where the reconstruction is needed. No muscle or fascia is removed from the abdomen, so it is much safer than TRAM flaps.

Reconstruction with implants:- Reconstruction with implants has the distinct advantage of being much simpler technically, requiring less donor site morbidity on behalf of the patient. For reconstruction purpose, we utilize tissue expanders and breast implants. It involves two procedures, where first, the chest skin and soft-tissue are expanded using expander prosthesis. This expander prosthesis, which is a silicone bag filled with saline is placed in the area at the time of mastectomy. The patient has to visit our center every few weeks after surgery to get the sterile fluid injected into the expander. After achieving an appropriate expansion, the expander is removed and a definitive breast implant is inserted.

Not all patients are ideal candidates for the procedure. Through a detailed evaluation, we will determine whether you are a candidate for breast reconstruction.
